Wild Castles 105: Neuschwanstein
Exotic Escapes

48m
The landscape surrounding Neuschwanstein is famous for its peaks as well as its gorges and wild river valleys. The steep cliffs are full of wildlife. Most prominently the Alpine ibex, a true climbing champion. After grazing in the green lowlands of the Alps, this massive (up to 100 kg) animal seeks the protection of rocky heights to hide from hunters. The alpine marmot has another strategy:
When in danger, it calls its distinctive warning shout into the silence. When his predator, the majestic golden eagle, appears, it hides in underground colonies. The dense forests of this region are also home to large herds of deer that find almost ideal conditions there.
